Basics: How to redeem Uber Promo Codes

Hello Uber people!

This post is about redeeming Uber promo codes. There are different types of promo codes, some gives discount on trip fares, some gives credits which you can consume and apply to your fare, some gives free rides up to a certain amount, some are location (pick up and destination point) specific, etc etc. The discount/ promo will then be reflected in your fare invoice after the trip.

Here’s how you can redeem Uber promo codes. There are 3 ways; a) through the main menu of the mobile app, b) through the screen before you request for your ride, and c) on your web dashboard.

A) through the Main Menu of the mobile app

          

Step 1: Open Uber App, Step 2: Open Main Menu on the upper left and click “PROMOTIONS”, Step 3: Input Promo Code and click “Apply”

 Note:  There are times when the command returns an error. If that happens, just click “Apply” one more time and that will do the trick.

  If you’d like to check if the credits are credited to your account, simply go back to the Main Menu and click “Payment”. The redeemed credits should be reflected there, if it’s an Uber credit promo code.

B) Through the screen before you request for your ride

          

Step 1: Open Uber App and click the Next (>) button, Step 2: Click the button “PROMO CODE” on the lower right just beside Fare Estimate, Step 3: Input the Promo Code in the pop-up dialogue box and click “APPLY”

C) Through your web dashboard

Step 1: Login to your Uber account at http://www.uber.com

  

Step 2: Click “Payment” in your side bar menu

Step 3: Input promo code in the highlighted box and click “Apply”

Redeem this promo code “ubermnltips” to get Php 200 Uber credits when you register to Uber.

 

Basics: Guide to Uber Pricing

Hello there! Here’s a guide to Uber pricing here in Metro Manila.

First of, there are two (2) types of cars you can request thru Uber: uberX and Black Car.

UberX

Car types: sedan and AUV (e.g. Vios, Innova, Adventure, etc.)

Minimum Fare: Php 60

Base Fare: Php 40

Per Minute Rate: Php 2/min

Per Kilometer Rate: Php 5.7/km

Car types: SUVs (e.g. Fortuner, Montero, Grandia, Everest, etc)

Minimum Fare: Php 120

Base Fare: Php 90

Per Minute Rate: Php 2.10/min

Per Kilometer Rate: Php 12.92/km

It’s important to note how Uber calculates for your fare:

Fare = [Base Fare + (Time x Per Min Rate) + (Distance x Per Distance Rate)] x Surge

Surge Pricing

Another important thing to remember is that Uber has surge pricing. This means that normal fare surges by the multiplier based on the demand for Uber service. Right now, surge pricing ranges from 1.3x up to 4.0x the normal fare. This surging is determined by the algorithm of Uber (we think). For example, if the surge pricing is 2.0x the normal fare, your total fare is doubled as simple as that. 🙂

You always have the option to wait for the surge to pass. There’s an option before requesting for an Uber to accept the surge pricing or to notify you when the fare is back to normal.

How do you know if there’s surge pricing? Look for the lightning icon. Refer to the pictures below.

Sample Fare Calculation

Here’s a sample fare calculation with surge pricing of 1.3x. All of these are available in your trip history in your Rider Dashboard. Uber also emails you the trip invoice showing the fare calculation.

Uber, is a mobile application (available in iOS and Android) that allows users to request for a private driver on demand. Uber originated from San Francisco and has expanded their service to about 100 cities in over 52 countries. Last year, the service became available in Metro Manila.

The Uber app gets you a car and a personal driver with only a tap of a button. Through the app, you can set your pick-up point, request for a car, track its location and estimated time of arrival, contact the driver, and rate and comment the experience.

Reliable Pickups

Upon requesting for an Uber, you can set a pick-up location by pinning it on the map, then you can just sit back and relax while you wait for your ride to arrive at the pick-up point. You can see real time where your Uber is at and its estimated time of arrival. You also have the option to SMS or call the driver.

Tip: Make sure you pin your location properly so the driver can find you faster! Google map results of Metro Manila is not yet very accurate and comprehensive. So better just pin if you can accurately pin point your location on the map.

Clear Pricing

Convenience comes with a price. On the average, an Uber ride is a bit more expensive than taxi. Take a look at Uber pricing in this blog post. It has a higher flag down rate than taxis depending on the type of vehicle requested. But don’t let the price intimidate you, given the level of service you get, the price is very SULIT! Once you’ve had the Uber experience it’s hard to go back. Haha!

Uber’s transaction fee is embedded unlike in other app-based taxi booking services (e.g. GrabTaxi and Easy Taxi) where a separate booking fee is charged on top of the metered fare.

Cashless Payment

The most valuable proposition of Uber (at least for us) is the convenience of its cashless payment— no more overcharging, no more gouging, no more scrambling for smaller change (yes, we’re talking about taxi drivers!!!!). Uber charges your enrolled credit card to pay for the ride and emails you the receipt with transparent fare computation.

 

Feedback and Comments

Feedback and rating is very important in Uber. It allows Uber and the riders to monitor and evaluate the drivers so they are held accountable. The same goes for us the riders! We are also being rated! So, let’s be nice! Anyway, nice begets nice, right?

Fare Splitting

You also have the option to split the fare with friends you’re riding with if they are also registered users. Their cards are automatically charged after the ride, hassle free!
